Net Billing in Cyprus

Net-Billing refers to the generation of electricity through Photovoltaic (PV) Systems installed on the roof of a building or on the same or adjacent plot where a commercial or industrial property is located. Under net-billing, any surplus electricity produced by the business—after meeting its immediate energy needs—is exported to the electrical grid. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) compensates for this surplus at the prevailing avoidance cost rate. The monetary value of the exported energy is then deducted from the property’s electricity bill.If the value of the exported electricity exceeds the cost of imported electricity (the amount owed by the consumer), the remaining balance is carried forward as a credit for the next billing period. At the end of a 12-month cycle, any remaining financial surpluses are settled, with the November bill serving as the final account for the year. This system enables businesses to significantly reduce or even eliminate their electricity-related operating costs.
